Welcome
Dr. Collins is interviewed regarding his dental practice and his expertise on Meth Mouth and how to treat it. Check out the video segment.
MethMouth is a popular term used to describe a severe oral disease that is secondary to methamphetamine abuse. Many believe that it is not a new disease but a severe oral condition resulting from a combination of known dental problems, including xerostomia (dry mouth), poor oral hygiene and diet habits, rampant decay and severe bruxing (clenching and grinding teeth). Severe destruction of teeth can easily occur within a year of meth abuse.
MethMouth can be considered a "perfect storm", in that multiple pharmacologic and behavioral factors combine to destroy teeth in a way that challenge the coping skills of a meth abuser.
Early attention has been focused on recognition of the disease, and hope that raising awareness in the media will discourage use of meth.
MethMouth.net is dedicated to prevention of meth abuse through awareness, support for those in recovery, and solutions for the methamphetamine crisis from the perspective of oral health.
Your are invited to contribute news items, constructive feedback, personal observations, and any information that can help with the methmouth crisis. Please email to drcollins@cfdonline.com
